VISITING

Beijing, Tokyo

OVERVIEW

Five thousand years of Chinese culture and history come alive. What was it like to be the emperor? How did the emperor spend his summer holidays (before the days of China Highlights)? What was it like to be an ordinary citizen in Beijing? Explore the emperors" Forbidden City, visit the iconic Temple of Heaven, and relax at the Summer Palace. Take a rickshaw ride through the Hutongs. Walk along the Great Wall and savor the flavor of a Beijing roast duck. Tokyo is Japan"s capital and the world"s most populous metropolis. It is also one of Japan"s 47 prefectures, consisting of 23 central city wards and multiple cities, towns and villages west of the city center. The tour offers a seemingly unlimited choice of shopping, entertainment, culture and dining to Tokyo visitors. The city"s history can be appreciated in districts such as Asakusa, and in many excellent museums, historic temples and gardens.

DAY

Arrive in Beijing

Upon arrival at Beijing International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel by a local driver on a private basis. After hotel check-in, the rest of the day is at leisure on your own.

DAY
2

Full-Day Forbidden City → Hutongs Tour → Beijing Roast Duck

After breakfast, your guide and driver will transfer you to the historic Tian'anmen Square. Your guide will provide you with commentary about the history and architecture as well as anecdotes of the square, and you will have some time there for taking photos. After going through the middle gate of Tian'anmen Rostrum, start to enjoy the highlights of the day - the Forbidden City, home to 24 emperors in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1420-1911). Your tour guide will help you explore 10 carefully-selected places in the Forbidden City, recommended by our local experts, while other group tours only visit 6 spots briefly. After visiting the Forbidden City, you'll have a rest and enjoy your delicious Beijing local food for lunch at a traditional Beijing restaurant - Dawanju Restaurant. After lunch, ride to the old hutong area with your guide and take a rickshaw through the 300-year-old hutongs. A visit to a local family, whose ancestors have lived in the hutongs for generations, offers a local perspective on history and is a highlight for most visitors. After the tour, enjoy an authentic Beijing roast duck dinner in a time-honored brand restaurant - Quanjude.

DAY
3

Full-Day Great Wall at Mutianyu and Temple of Heaven Tour

After breakfast, we will pick you up at the lobby of your hotel. Your guide and driver will take you to the Temple of Heaven. The Circular Mound Altar, Echo Wall, and spectacular Imperial Vault of Heaven are the highlights of most tour packages, but we would recommend you spend some time to discover that this was a fasting palace for the emperor. The emperor would fast at the palace before he held a ceremony to pray for a good harvest, and would abstain from meat and wine. Enjoy lunch with your guide at Xinshuangquan restaurant. In the afternoon, you'll hike the Great Wall at Mutianyu. This section is ranked top among all parts of the Great Wall for its picturesque scenery, fewer tourists, and beautifully restored architecture. In order to save your time, we use round-trip cable car rides (you can also choose to walk down) to ascend and descend the Great Wall, instead of spending about 40 minutes climbing steps. At the Wall, your guide will be with you to hike the most beautiful and interesting part of the Great Wall - between the 14th and 23rd watchtowers. It normally takes about 2 hours to complete the route. Then descend and take a transfer bus back to your vehicle. After the tour, transfer to the hotel and spend the rest of day at leisure.

DAY
4

Beijing → Half-Day Summer Palace → Depart to Japan → Arrive in Tokyo

After breakfast, your guide and driver will transfer you to the famous imperial garden in China, the Summer Palace. It is where the emperors used to retreat when fleeing the summer heat. The best way to enjoy sightseeing at the Summer Palace is by taking a dragon boat on the lake (the boat trip is not available in winter as the lake will be frozen) and, you will have a chance to view all of the beautiful palaces at lakeside during the trip. Enjoy lunch at an attractive traditional restaurant. After the tour, transfer to Beijing International Airport on a private basis for your flight to Japan. Upon arrival at Narita International Airport, you will meet our representative with name board at the customs exit. We will assist you to board an airport limousine bus and then transferred to hotel on your own. After hotel check-in, the rest of the day is at leisure on your own.

DAY
5

Full-Day Tokyo Grand Group Joining Tour

After breakfast, you will start your Tokyo Grand Experience with a pickup from your hotel and today you will get a taste for all the amazing sights in metropolitan Tokyo. Next you visit Meiji Jingu Shrine, taking in a fine example of Japanese Shrine architecture, nestled in a peaceful and picturesque area. Then you will drive by Akasaka Palace (known as Government State Guest House) and National Diet Building. Afterwards, enjoy a pleasant walk in the East Garden of the Imperial Palace, as a place of historical interest and scenic beauty. After driving through Ginza Shopping District, have a Japanese style lunch. This afternoon your guide takes you to Hamarikyu Garden which is a typical Daimyo garden in the Edo period with a tidal pond. Move on to Hinode Pier, where you'll enjoy a short Cruise on the Sumida River as you head towards Tokyo's Asakusa neighborhood. Your ride on this historically significant body of water will take you underneath 12 bridges as you enjoy the unique architectural landmarks along the riverbank and see a harmonious blend of old and new Tokyo. Disembark from your boat and spend some time to stroll the Streets of Nakamise, a thoroughfare that's packed with vendors selling handicrafts and food. Head on from Nakamise to Asakusa Kannon Temple (also known as Senso-ji Temple), where you'll have the chance to explore Tokyo's oldest and most important Buddhist temple. After the tour, concludes your excursion with a drive through Kappabashi, Ueno and Akihabara. Finally you will be transferred to your hotel and then spend the rest of day at leisure on your own.
